Growing up in a small town, I always craved the city life. There was never anything to do in my neck of the woods other than shop at WalMart or hang at the busiest restaurant in town, Chilis. I know, what was I missing right? I always dreamed of moving to San Antonio or Austin. In comparing the two, Austin always had me leaning on their end because of their “chill”, carefree city vibe and motto “Keep Austin Weird,” but for some reason, I ended up choosing San Antonio, and now I am so happy that I did.

With prices of homes skyrocketing and the population on the rise in Austin, more people are starting to look at what San Antonio has to offer. Here are the top 5 reasons why it’s a great place to live:

The Housing Market is like no other. While the median price of a home in SA has risen over the years, the average sale price of a home here is surprisingly still lower than the national average. Whether you’re looking for a rural, urban, or suburban setting, San Antonio has it all. It is a great time of year to buy a home! Also, if you have that country in ya, horses & livestock are welcome too.

The City is family-friendly! We all know every city is going to have crime, but when you truly experience this one, you’ll rarely find a situation that will make you want to punch someone in the face. Yes, I said it. San Antonio is the 7th largest city in the U.S. and unlike other cities like L.A. and New York City, our city holds some of the nicest people you’ll meet. Especially when celebrations come about. You’ll be tapping margarita glasses and dancing with people you don’t even know. Oh yeah, and there are excellent schools that your children will love!

The Job Market is continuously on the rise. Apparently, San Antonio has a very low unemployment rate. With SA being home to more than a handful of Fortune 500 companies (Valero, Tesoro, USAA, etc.), that already lets you know that a ton of people are employed. But there’s still room for more. The medical centers, numerous military bases, and banks keep the city going. There’s also a lot of room to start a business here.

The vibrant, unique Culture is far out. Fiesta and NIOSA are a couple of events that you don’t want to miss out on. Fiesta honors those that fought at the battle of the Alamo and San Jacinto & NIOSA funds San Antonio’s Conservation Society. The hundreds of events that take place here include amazing music of different genres, delicious barbecue & Tex-Mex cuisine, and parties that will keep you socializing all night long. “The heart of the city” is the famous Riverwalk where you can enjoy some great food, shopping, and culture.

SA is growing to be more modern but it’s still Historic. The Alamo is the biggest historic attraction here in SA but there are so many historical sites, galleries, and museums to explore- Aztec on the River, Basilica of the National Shrine, and San Fernando Cathedral are some of them. And if you’re looking for something different and fun to do with a date or the family, look no longer. If you have Groupon, purchase 3Quest Challenge. It’s a digital scavenger hunt adventure that takes you through downtown and it involves solving puzzles, gathering clues, and completing challenges that involve the history of SA. You’re welcome!

If you’re looking for a new place to relocate your family and want to start some great, lifelong memories, look no further than the Alamo City!
